Continental Plaza Building #3, Hackensack, NJ
1996 NJ Golden Trowel Masonry Awards, Special Recognition
GC: Palent Construction Company
Architect: Rotwein & Blake Associated Architects, P.A.
The owner of this building was looking to upgrade the appearance of the lobby area in this, the third building of a busy office complex. Marble and granite were once again chosen as the material of choice to create an image both elegant and decorative. This would require the new stone to be installed over the existing stone wall using mechanical pins and anchors.
A spectacular geometric pattern was designed for the floors using colors including Rosso Levanto Antico, Verde Alpi Scuro, Bianco Sardo, and Kashmere white granite. Sizes included 24 x 24", 9 x 24" and 9 x 30", used on both the floors and walls. Large slabs also decorate these walls in colors of Stardust, Verdi Alpi and Red Levanto in 3/4" and 1-1/4" thicknesses.
Elegant touches of interest were added with the inclusion of planter seats, walls and caps. These planters curve through the lobby area, guiding visitors to the elevators waiting in the center of the building. A distinctive stone directory also greets visitors and at once projects an unmistakable, prestigious image.
The challenge here was clearly to create a grand scale opulence in a physically small space. The finished lobby more than exceeded our expectations due to the use of this luxurious, natural product.
